Landon Martin is the subject of this month’s spotlight and the recipient of Handshake’s first Alumni Scholarship Award! Landon is a Senior at Wittenberg, Class of 2022 and Co-Captain of his Basketball team. He is positioned center right next to Handshake America’s Co-Founders at the 10th Anniversary Celebration.
Landon answered several questions about his Handshake experience and how he has applied lessons in the program to his collegiate life.
1. what would you say is your biggest takeaway from your year in the program?
Handshake America has been one of the biggest blessings in my life - it’s like a family. You’re surrounded by people who only want to see you succeed and taught important intangibles you need everyday. For me, it was self-confidence and responsibility. Without Handshake I wouldn’t be the person I am now.
2. how have the 5 practices been tested in your post-graduate life?
I’ve had to persevere through going to school, working, and playing basketball at the same time. As a result of the pandemic, I had to make some tough decisions and took a semester off school, but ultimately decided to return to graduate.
3. what advice do you have for young student-athletes?
Something as small as a great ‘Handshake’ can make a big impression on someone who has the ability to change your life.
